A desire to change the government in order to protect or gain peoples liberty often causes conflict.

Final Assessment
Using evidence from your investigation make an argument to the following question: “Should all decisions be based on majority rule?” In your answer provide evidence from the pre-civil war racial and gender arguments, the civil war, and reconstruction. Option One Write a multiple paragraph response to the question: Paragraph One: Introduce the time period and describe the problems that faced the nation. End this paragraph with you Thesis Statement. Your next two to three paragraphs should have Topic sentences, Facts, explanation of how the facts impacted your thesis statement and a concluding statement Your conclusion needs to restate the problem and your argument. You should also write a possible solution. Option Two Create a presentation using media where you debate the issue. (could be PowerPoint, a video, or other media)

Women's Suffrage Movement and Abolitionism
The 1800 in America was a very confused period. People were trying to decide what the Constitution and Declaration of Independence really declared. What was meant by "all men are created equal?" They wonders whose rights the constitution protected. They debated the right of states to make laws or ignore laws. Two of the major movements dealing with peoples rights during the 19th century were the Abolitionists and Women's Suffrage organization.
