There were two important ways in which the United States grew. First, was the increase in population. This brought about an increase in the size of cities. Next came a physical expansion of land. During this unit we will explore both elements of Americas growth. Learning how the cooperation of Americans often led to conflict with others. Ultimately these moments of conflict allowed for the United States to expand from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Coast.

In the graph to the left you can see the increase in immigration throughout the 1800's. The rising population led to the United States being able to populate regions of the Americas that had previously been limited to small numbers.
